고대 그리스어는 세미콜론( ; )이 물음표('?')였다.
λουτρών , λουτρῶνος, ὁ, 목욕실, 목욕탕(bathing-room, bath-house) 남성명사

(현대 그리스어) 

Πού είναι το μπάνιο?

뿌 이네 또 바뇨?

μπάνιο (바뇨) 수영, 목욕, 샤워실, 목욕실(중성명사) 

 

[덧붙이는 말]

마운스 선생은 화장실이 어디 있는지 물어보는 말을 알아야 비로소 외국어를 아는 것이라고 말한다. 그런데, 고대 그리스어의 이 표현은 알아도 쓸 일은 없을 것 같다. 이미 사어가 되어버린 고대 그리스어만을 이해하는 사람을 만날 일은 없기 때문이다.

현대 그리스어 표현을 알아두면 급할 때 써먹을 일이 있을지도 모르겠다.

 

[영어 표현] 

영어 표현은 다음과 같다.

Where is the bathroom? 화장실이 어디 있어요? 
bathroom, 개인용 화장실이나 공공 화장실 모두에 쓸 수 있다고 한다. 

또는, 
Where is washroom? (다만, 워시룸은 주로 단독으로 설치되어 있거나 역이나 레스토랑 등에 있는 화장실이다)

공공화장실이나 회사건물 등의 화장실은 restroom을 쓴다고 한다. washroom과 비슷한 의미이다.
또는 men's room이나 ladies' room을 쓴다고 한다.

Where is the restroom? (화장실은 어디 있나요?)
ㅁ 이 말을 가정집을 방문해서 쓰면 당황할 거라고 한다.

Where is the men's room? (남자 화장실은 어디 있나요?)
Where is the ladies' room? (여자 화장실은 어디 있나요?)

참고 : toilet은 안쓴다고 한다.  변기통 어디 있어요? 정도의 의미라고 한다.
